Raken Improves Lives of Field Crews at Sundt
"The logistics of a daily report are done in five or six clicks. Then I can put it down and go out in the field doing what I do best."
The problem: Wasted time with old software
Old software was a common pain point that crews in the field had to deal with. It was the first problem Dominic Daughtrey, Sundt’s continuous improvement program director at the time, found when he took a hard look at their processes. “What we were using to process daily reports, the software we had implemented, none of the superintendents enjoyed working with it,” said Daughtrey. “It was very time consuming, the value-added portion of getting the information and putting it into a format that’s easily consumable was very hard with that software.”
Dave Storvis, a Sundt project superintendent with over 35 years of experience, was also frustrated with their cumbersome software.
“If someone was working on, say, the foundations for three or four or five days, I would have to go in and enter the same information three, four, or five times.”
Dave S., Project Superintendent
Daughtrey and Storvis identified a common failing with using outdated technology: it took too long, it wasn’t enjoyable to work with, and they spent too much time entering redundant information.
The solution: Streamlined reporting
To make their processes more efficient and save field workers time, Daughtrey implemented Raken and immediately saw improvement. First, the daily reports themselves got better. “We’re not just capturing the daily report info of what the weather was like, how many people were on site, or what scopes they did,” said Daughtrey. “We’re actually capturing safety documentation, permits, inspections, we’re doing all that and we’re consolidating it into a single source of information for that day.”
With Raken, not only were Sundt’s field personnel making better reports, they were making them in less time.
“As far as time savings, it’s better than 50% of my time. The logistics of a daily report are done in five or six clicks. Then I can put it down and go out in the field doing what I do best.”

Easy implementation
What impressed Sundt most about Raken was how easy it was to implement with little to no training. Daughtrey explained, “There are multiple ways to enter the data, and entering it is so much easier than other software we’ve used.”
“We were able to implement Raken seamlessly and efficiently, and not only with our employees but with the subcontractors as well. We haven’t seen any software yet in the industry that is so intuitive and user-friendly.“
Dominic D., Continuous Improvement Program Manager
Storvis agreed, saying “I found Raken simplified. I can review the sub’s input at the end of the day, and once I see that it’s correct it’s a simple sign and qualify.”
Faster reports

Raken’s intuitive interface and user-friendly approach to daily reports has led to high adoption and compliance within Sundt while simultaneously saving the workers in the field valuable time filling out their dailies.
