The problem: Manual time entry and reporting was too cumbersome
Before Raken, Roger & Sons did things the old fashioned way, like many concrete contractors do. Handwritten daily reports and time cards might have been the norm twenty years ago, but they’re ineffective now. And that’s exactly the issue that Toni Ann Deszaran, Human Resources Manager, kept running into.
The process was pretty messy early on. “The guys would send me a timesheet on a piece of cardboard, or on the back of a deli slip, or a coffee cup,” says Toni Ann. “It was not automated to say the least.”
Even when things were more organized, data still had to be entered into excel and then transferred into accounting and payroll manually.
The solution: Saving time and simplifying payroll with Raken + Sage 300
Productivity immediately improved when Roger & Sons chose to go digital. Raken’s easy daily reports were an instant hit with workers in the field, and our digital time cards were the logical choice since we integrate with Sage 300.
“Raken has saved me probably three hours a week. And that’s a lot.”

Streamlined daily reporting and time tracking
Thanks to Raken, Roger & Sons doesn't have to rely on messy, haphazard daily reports. With our digital daily reports, it’s easy for workers to capture crucial data in the field, including photo and video data on their mobile devices. Then, workers can type out reports and include that information.
“What I love is the pictures that we now have the ability to put in Raken,” Toni Ann says. "It’s so easy for the guys to snap photos. It’s in one place, which I really like."
Similarly, Roger & Sons didn’t have to worry about timesheets scrawled on the back of that day’s leftovers anymore. Raken’s easy digital time cards make it easy to track hours that seamlessly integrate into Sage 300.
“Now what I have to do is click three buttons, and the payroll is imported. And I don’t have to key it in.”
Raken and Sage 300 allow for easy customization
Rather than taking a 'one size fits all' approach, we pride ourselves on our ability to cater to individual companies’ unique needs. That was particularly attractive to Roger & Sons.
“Every company is different, every company has different unions or classifications that they use,” says Toni Ann. “And it’s just so easy to have everything that we need—we don’t have to pick one off a list. We can choose the classifications we actually use.”
Raken’s time cards come with the ability to create custom classifications that fit with your company’s unique needs. That’s not something you can say for every time tracking software.

High field adoption leads to greater efficiency on the jobsite
Raken is particularly popular in the field. Roger & Sons is no exception. While Toni Ann might have had her concerns about how quickly workers in the field would take to their new way of doing things, those were quickly laid to rest.
“Change is hard for these guys, but I think they can see the value in it for sure.”
There’s nothing about Raken that is difficult to figure out. It’s about functionality, not fancy bells and whistles. And that shows.
“We’re a family business, we’ve all been working together for 15-20 years. We’ve known each other since we were in our twenties,” Toni Ann says.
“The idea of technology is scary sometimes. But this has just been so easy.”
